Trick or treat preview

The retirement home where my Grandma lives has trick or treats before Halloween so there isn't too many kids. So we will get to go twice! The best part about TorT-ing there is the walking inside...while it is not too cold this year (25 and snowing!) it is still too cold for wandering around with no coat.

Abbie Rose AKA Alisha the vampire

And Dr. Horrible the evil mad scientist! (cue the maniacal laughter)

Piggies

Rose made this pig out of some home-made playdough leftover from her bird diorama. Too cute!

The new and improved window in time

Liam got to bring home his first Exploring Tech (wood shop) class project home today. Cool, huh? He says the squares on the corners are walnut wood. Liam says he is planning to light the edges of the clock with LED's so it will be visible at night.

Risotto

My lovely assistant!

My lovely cousin got us both a subscription to the Donna Hay magazine. A foodie author from Australia, you can check her out here. I have had too much fun drooling over all the good things to eat and trying to decide what to make! I have made several things inspired by her yummy recipes, but this is the first one where I actually followed the directions.
Shrimp risotto:

I would like to say it was very good, but it was just OK...the recipe sounded good and had lots of tasty ingredients. Duck broth, onion, shrimp, cheese, how can you go wrong? Well it was just bland...also not a favorite of the shorter members of our family. Oh, well. I will try again with something else...up next on my list is salt and pepper tofu!

I should say it was pretty good leftover. I made it into patties with cheese in the center and fried it in a pan with some olive oil, yum!

Just an old pic of sushi night 2.0, I think this is some tuna. Very tasty and fun to do!

Salmon day

Rose (formerly known as Abbie) and I went on a field trip to learn about spawning salmon and get some salmon eggs for the second grade to hatch. Very cool and informative. Rose was a little annoyed they had to kill the fish. But the eggs were too exciting

Yes, Abbie has decided she would rather be called Rose by her friends and family. She has been talking about it for quite a while and I can't think of a reason why she shouldn't so we are just gonna try to make the change....so far so good, just a little strange! :)
