First trip of the season!

A few pictorial highlights from our first camping trip of the summer! For this trip we chose to go up the Steese Highway to about 55 mile, then off road to the banks of the Chatinika river. We had fair weather, one big thunderstorm and most of a day of showers, but otherwise not bad.

Not sure what these butterflies were eating/drinking, but it was very cool to see them so close!

Lots of fun to fling rocks when you get to use a tool! The slingshot and staff sling brigade.

Abbie got a real fishing pole to use this year! She does well with it, but it needs some better line...it keeps kinking up from being spooled too long.

Liam descending from fly fishing to try the spin rod for a bit. He caught a few little grayling with the fly rod but we didn't have much luck with the spinners. I think most of the big fish had been taken over Memorial Day weekend.

Kyle had some good luck with the prospecting though!! Some more fines to add to his collection.

This was a fun trip, we will definitely be going back to this spot. So nice for us to have a place off the road with prospecting and fishing right in front of the truck!

  1. Looks and sounds great - loved seeing the kids in the "summer' gear - but rain is the best weather for fishing!! :-)

  3. Sounds like a great trip! The butterflies are beautiful. Maybe they were going after minerals in the mud??? I got a kick out of Abbie in her dress / mud boots / jacket / and a fishing pole. (Why not be fashionable when you fish?) Can't wait to see you all.
